Benchmark--The midterm benchmark will be given next week. The schedule is on the Weekly Plans page, and you will find a list of covered items below. Students should be familiar with the terms, as well as be able to answer questions about them as they pertain to a given text. All questions will mimic TNReady, but there will not be an essay question.

- setting--identify time and place, as well as how setting creates mood
- Text Structures--compare/constrast; description; sequence; cause/effect; problem/solution
- Mood & Tone
- Figurative Language--simile, metaphor, extended metaphor, personification, idiom, allusion
- Grammar--sentences, fragments, run-ons, comma splices, misplaced and dangling modifiers
Practice ACT--Before Thanksgiving break, we took the Reading and English portions of a practice ACT. If your child would like to take the Science and Math portions, I will be giving those after school next week. Please let me know your child is planning to stay.
- Monday, Dec. 5--Science, 35 minutes
- Wednesday, Dec. 7--Math, 60 minutes
Symbolism Essays--All essays have been returned. Students have the opportunity to rewrite these and resubmit them for extra points. All essays must be resubmitted no later than Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Welcome Back!! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! Here are a few things to remember as we look forward to beginning second quarter:
- Report Cards will come home Thursday.
- This is TEEN READ WEEK!! We will spend five minutes each class period reading for fun!!
- Conferences are next Thursday, Oct. 20. Mr. Meadows will be creating a sign up genius for that night, and the link will be posted on his website when it is up and running.
Grammar Re-Do: Students wishing to complete a re-do assignment over either parts of speech or quotations may do so next Thursday, Sept. 15 during remediation time. In order to be eligible for a re-do, students must have visited the writing lab a minimum of three times for grammar tutoring. After completion of the redo, the higher of the two grades will be recorded.
Monday, Aug. 29--Grades in iNOW are current. Please double check your child's grade!! If you see one of the following codes, this is what it means:
MI = missing assignment...averaged in as "0" until completed
ABI = absent day of assignment, 5 day make-up period has passed...averaged in as "0" until completed
ABN = absent day of assignment, but still within 5 day make-up period...NOT averaged in as "0"
